Don't try this out of home...I've been working from home a lot recently, which means that I tend to not worry about the weather and dress how I feel like it. Which explains why yesterday I thought this outfit would be a great idea. All of these pieces are very thin and wouldn't be considered winter attire, but I really liked the combo together so I ventured out in the snow to take these pictures. This would be the perfect outfit for early fall, but middle of winter? No sir! And since my brother is my photographer and he (although properly dressed for winter) did not want to be standing outside, we had to be quick about these. Certainly not the coldest we've done outfit photos in, but this is the least amount of layers I've worn before. Things you do to get back into the blog groove.

Favorite Winter Trends
Happy Monday, everyone! Hoping you all had a great weekend and are excited for the short work week. For today's November Blogathon prompt, we're asked to share our favorite winter trends. Right up my alley! I am currently obsessed with wearing all neutrals together or beautiful deep jewel tones. I love color so the jewel tones come as no surprise, but wearing neutrals isn't usually my thing, so it's been fun to try out recently. So here are two looks I created in Polyvore based on these two trends.
Which trend do you like best?

Chels Wears: Warm Autumn Pattern Mixing
![]() |
Bag, Jeans, Scarf, Necklace & Ring: WalMart | Top: Peebles | Boots: Urbanog |
I have been in love with this top since I laid eyes on it. I really like the little zippers on the shoulders and the high-low look. Not to mention, it's really easy to do simple pattern mixing because the back has stripes but the front is plain. I'm a big fan. It's one of the only items I've bought from Peebles that I've been overwhelmingly pleased with. Usually I get something from there and, while it will do, it just slightly misses the mark for me. To be frank, I've bought a good bit of times from them, yet can only think of four items I have in my closet and actually love to wear from them. That's actually pretty sad, considering I have more items from the dollar store that I consider to be better clothing. Time to up your game, Peebles.
What favorite pieces have you fallen for recently?

Fashion Forward Fridays: NFL Game Day
Hey friends! Any of you who know me, or have followed my blog for a while, know that I love sports and am a die-hard Pittsburgh fan so with football season on its way, I was all about doing this preseason post! Fanatics is an online retail outlet for all things sports and they have some of my favorite football jerseys and so I, of course, could not choose just one to style, and thought that choosing each of the Steelers jerseys would make for the perfect Fashion Forward Fridays post. So, gear up for football season with me and check out Fanatics and these three ways to style your Steelers jersey!
I would also like everyone to know that I was watching the new movie Draft Day while putting these outfits together and actually liked it. Disclaimer: I love all movies about football, but it's saying something to tell you that I liked a movie about the Cleveland Browns.

Although I'd probably never dress up my jerseys, I like that the Steelers make it easy to do so with gold. |

I would rock this, it's perfect for warmer weather and since the last Batman was film in Pittsburgh, the hat is perfect! |

Okay, this seriously is exactly how I wear my white jersey. |
Which is your favorite look?
Don't forget that I'll soon be back to blogging about my Steelers for On Her Game!
Happy Friday & Here We Go!

Chels Wears: Railroad Maxi

Maxi: DIY | Belt & Scarf: Unkown (super old) | Chambray Vest & Bracelet: WalMart |
You guys. You should know by now how much I love maxis, especially this one...because I made it. This summer has been a bit on the chilly side up here in Erie but that is fine with me, since fall is my favorite season. This outfit actually felt like too much in the morning when I got dressed because it was hotter than usual, but when we set out to get these photos taken there was a random and serious downpour. After that we went home and tried to do indoor photos but nothing worked out, so later that night, just before the sun started to go down, Eric and I set out to this location again and by then the weather had cooled down and the outfit was perfect. And I have to admit that I actually really love how these photos turned out. Good things come to those who wait, I guess!

About Dressing "Modestly"
![]() |
1: Thrifted Michael Kors | 2: Owls | 3: Puppies in the Snow | 4: 50 Shades of Pink! |
This post; however, has finally put into words what all three of those defining characteristics have in common, and what I have always wanted to say but somehow couldn't express in quite the right way. My body, my clothes, and me in general, are beautiful, powerful and deserve (if not demand) respect. While I have a high level of self confidence that societal standards say I shouldn't, this post struck me because finally someone (and a man, at that) was putting a feeling that I've always had into a well-written piece of work. This part is what inspired me the most...
"If we can move away from the shrill condemnation of the Modesty Lifeguards and return to a positive view of clothing, we may find ourselves both more beautiful and more appropriate to living as valued persons, honoring and respecting one another. God wants every one of us to reflect him in the earth. Objectifying our beauty dehumanizes all of us. Fearing that our beauty is too much for others to handle shames us and others. There is another way. The God who became flesh wants to see our beauty. Let's dress knowing that he celebrates us as his reflections on earth." - Dale Fincher on Convergent
....
As a feminist, I am tired of being told I have to dress a certain way as to show that I am the owner of my body and that my sexuality is allowed to be expressed and if men (and/or other women) are unable to keep their eyes and impure thoughts off of me that is their problem, not mine.
As a plus-sized woman, I am tired of being told that I have to dress a certain way that includes baggy clothes and dark colors. This way, my "flaws" are covered up or just happen to look smaller because "black is slimming."
As a Christian, feminist, plus-sized, woman, I am allowed to dress as I please. I am allowed to look cute, modest, fashionable, beautiful, even sexy, if I choose. And while I understand that what I wear might cause a different kind of reaction for different people, my clothing choice wasn't about those people. I didn't think about all of you while I was standing in my underwear looking blankly into my closet and thinking the daily thought of "I have nothing to wear." To be honest, in that moment, I was selfishly thinking of me. I was also mildly considering the weather, what activities I might encounter, how I feel, and what I potentially need to be prepared for. But whatever ended up on my body that day, was because I was thinking about me. I was thinking, "It's snowing but I still really want to wear a skirt." Or "how can I dress as bummy as possible and still be within the work dress code?"
I wasn't thinking about your Christian morals, your feminist agenda or your thoughts on curves. Because it's MY Christian morals that tell me, it's what's on the inside that's important anyway and if a man looks at me and only thinks of sex, he needs more than just for me to put on a hoodie. It's MY feminist agenda that says, I'm going to put on whatever I want and it doesn't make me any less feminist if that outfit is cutesy and/or doesn't allude power. And it is MY appreciation for every single curve on my body that always makes me leave the house saying, damn, I look good.

Chels Wears: Flannel & Lace
Lace Tank: American Eagle | Lace Scarf & Belt: Unknown | Ring, Bracelets & Necklace: Charlotte Russe |
Flannel: WalMart | Jeans & Cardigan: JCPenney | Boots: Payless |
In other news, my brother would also like for me to tell all of you that this flannel shirt is his. So, hey everyone, this is Eric's shirt. To be fair, I bought it for him for his birthday and I asked permission before stealing it for the day. I just have a beef with women's flannels because most of the ones that I have and see in stores are not real flannel. They are really just plaid and are not of the flannel material that actually keeps you warm. Ain't nobody got time for that! It feels like -29 degrees outside, I need a real flannel!
Hope you all are staying warm!

Fashion Forward Fridays: Pantone Color of the Year
I made this first look based around a totally different dress at first and then when I was all finished, I realized that dress was really just purple. If you follow me on Polyvore, you would have seen a sexier work look for about an hour, which was promptly edited to this set. The only thing that stayed the same between the two sets was that watch, because who wouldn't like to have that beauty?
This casual look is my favorite. To the point that I wish I was wearing this exact outfit right now. A girl can dream, right!? I think that colored denim will be the easiest way for me to accept this color, because I am all about colored pants. And this just looks so cozy and on trend. This might even be my favorite set I ever made on Polyvore, with a close second being my Everyday Leather look.
Finally, I wanted to mix it up a bit by creating a flirty night out look. And with this one, I was okay with the dress not being all Radiant Orchid, because I just love how this dress is just about every shade of purple. I also like the mixture of hard and soft elements, so I let the various shades of purple be the soft and feminine bit of this outfit and the jacket and accessories created the hard side. I would just suggest wearing some nude tights with this one if you were to copy it and actually go out, because let's be serious, Radiant Orchid is really a spring color and it is certainly not feeling like spring anywhere around here.
How do you feel about the Pantone color choice for this year? Are you still on the fence, like me, or are you sold on Radiant Orchid?
Also, don't forget that the $25 writtenforyou store credit is still up for grabs! Get entered in this giveaway!
