Chels Wears: Dressy Black & Gold

Rooney's Shirt: Grand Scheme PGH | Skirt: Vera Wang | Vest: New York & Co.
Booties: Target | Mixed Bracelets: Charlotte Russe & Walmart | Metallic Purse: Wet Seal | Necklace: Forever 21

If you read my most recent post for On Her Game this week then you know that I missed the Monday night full of Pittsburgh sports (the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates all had games) because I had to work. This outfit was my way of showing my Pittsburgh sports pride while still being work-appropriate.

Over the summer, I saw a lot of fashion bloggers dressing up the graphic tee and I thought this would be the perfect outfit to test this trend out for and I have to say I love it! I also love that the high school football field is so close to my house because it made getting these pictures before running to work super convenient too! But note to self, do not wear heels in the grass again. I should have known better. Also, if you remember, this is the Vera Wang skirt that I got at Goodwill and this is the shirt I was wearing when I met Franco Harris.... double holler!

I'm Finally Writing a Review of Red Beard's

Hey there. About a month ago I mentioned how some friends and I checked out a new restaurant downtown and that I would write a review of it soon. Well, this isn't what I'd consider "soon" but here it is. Red Beard's is now downtown. It is wonderful and you should check it out.

Red Beard's Logo
Red Beard's has another location in Mt. Washington and now that they are located in downtown, around the block from my apartment, I am in love with them. When I went there for the first time, everything was so very new and I was overly excited just because it was a different choice to the downtown options. It was the second day that this location was open, so it still smelled new and the staff was still learning the menu and specials and getting into their flow, so I didn't want to blog about them right away. So I have gone back a couple times now and it is clearly one of my favorite spots for easy dining and late drinks with friends.

The atmosphere downstairs, of course, is very mid-priced bar and upstairs has the more restaurant feel. While the menu is pretty much the typical cuisine you'd expect for a what would be served at a bar, it also has a vibe that is more chic or "clean" in my opinion. Bar food isn't what I normally go for but Red Beard's is able to give you the simplicity of typical bar food with the added ingredients of a local bistro. Since that first visit, the staff seems like a now well-oiled machine, but a machine that is still personable and friendly and welcomes you at the door. Red Beard's in this new location is a great place to be able to get a quick, yet delicious, meal before seeing a show in the Cultural District and the perfect place to celebrate a Pirates or Penguins win after the game. Or if your in the area for any of those things, or just roaming downtown (or Mt. Washington) during the day, stop in and experience it for yourself - I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Penguins on Parade

For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with penguins. If you need me to rattle off a few fun facts and various movie references that include them, a favorite being from Good Luck Chuck, I can. So you can imagine the excitement when about a month ago, my brother posted this video on my Facebook wall:

Right after I watch the video, about 362 times, we made plans to go to Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium to see the penguins parade first hand. Today was that day. I asked weeks in advance to have this day off and we were set to go. After a little pre-trip drama of my alarm clock not going off, and me speeding from downtown to East Liberty to pick up my brother (somehow getting that far, in decent traffic, in only 20 minutes) we made it just in time to join the rest of the crowd, what seemed like everyone in Pittsburgh, to watch the cute wittle waddlers. And although we weren't allowed to touch them even if they came close to us, this was a dream come true. I cannot explain my love for these little guys without sounding like a total moron.

Wittle friends parading!
The littlest friend!
Posing like he's on the red carpet!
Also, PPG was really thinking when they decided to hold the Penguin Parade every Saturday and Sunday from February until March...what other activity would bring this many people to the zoo when it's not the greatest weather to be outside in for a few hours? The penguins waddled from their house inside the aquarium to the end of a looong line of people and then back home, what fun! And the penguin handlers seemed really friendly and pleased with their little buddies, which it's always nice to see happy people working with animals. Great job to all involved and if you have free time tomorrow or for the next two weekends in March, go see the "March of the Penguins" in real life.
